Bird Festival and Family Fun Walk at False Bay Nature Reserve

Bird Festival. False Bay Nature Reserve. Wonderful bird watching. Mariner Guest House - Simon's Town. Luxury affordable holiday accommodation with sea views.

Revel in the last days of pleasant weather and take the clan out for a day in the wetlands at the False Bay Nature Reserve for the Bird Festival and Family Fun Walk on Saturday, 12 April 2014 hosted by the City of Cape Town together with BirdLife South Africa (BLSA) and the Cape Bird Club (CBC).

Attendees are invited to participate in 4-, 5.5- or 6.8-km walks through the Strandfontein Birding Area of the extensive nature reserve, which houses an impressive number of plant, bird and animal species in a permanent wetland.  During the stroll families will encounter information booths where they can learn more about this unique and important area, and they can also win spot prizes by just answering the en-route environmental education quiz.

Along with the fun walk, families will be treated to a range of exciting interactive festivities, like a display from Eagle Encounters Raptor Rehabilitation Centre, a reptile show and a fire demonstration, and everyone will be able to enter a lucky draw to score some awesome goodies. Not to mention, those who register early and complete the walk will receive a complimentary fish and chip lunch from John Dory’s.
