The First Annual Beach Party
Maiden’s Cove is the spectacular venue for the first instalment of the Beach Party, which we expect we’ll see climbing to the top of the events calendar in no time. Sip cocktails with your feet in the soft white sand to dance the night away to South Africa’s best house music, including Sun El, Naak Musiq, DJ Bongs, and the legendary Fistaz Mixwell. We Love Summer Feat. Pillowtalk
This up-and-coming music festival is making waves in the Cape Town summer scene. This year is there biggest yet, with two stages featuring incredible live acts. The festival is headlined by US-based indie/electro band Pillowtalk. The event has all the makings of a music festival—beautiful people, music, booze, and food—but it must be the one around where you can also get involved in wakeboarding and skiing. You can also expect art installations, a salsa dancefloor, a gin mixology bar, and an open-air cinema.

Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts
The famed Kirstenbosch Summer Concert series kicks off this month, with performances by Cat Stevens (Sold Out) and local acts Ismaël Lo and Zakes Bantwini. These summertime concerts take place on the sloping lawns of the Kirstenbosch Gardens, with dramatic mountain backdrops. People take picnic baskets, blankets, and drinks, and settle in for a lazy afternoon watching the sunset while enjoying the fantastic bands. Kenilworth Thrift Fest at The Racecourse
Cape Town’s official second-hand market is coming up, and this year it features some amazing live music too. Entrance is R50 for adults and R10 for kids under 12, and the event is kid- and dog-friendly. Bands include Native Young, Mobbing Bali, and Jackal and the Wind. Make sure you bring cash as no cards will be accepted, and browse the many stalls of awesome second-hand goods and clothing. Bring a sorted garbage bag of recycling for a 50% discount on entrance!

Streetopia 2017
This is Observatory’s annual community festival, complete with art installations, mutant vehicles form AfrikaBurn, live music and performances, and loads more. This is the kind of event where you’ll be the odd one out if you don’t dress up, so get out the glad rags and get colourful on the streets of Obs! Entrance is free, too.

Future Frequency Festival
Future Frequency Festival is an avant-garde electronic music festival. They aim to push boundaries, bringing hi-tech music to low-tech settings. The unique venue is a yard filled with shipping containers. This is about as trendy as it gets. It’s all about the future of music, set in an industrial, edgy venue.

Toy Run
The Toy Run is South Africa’s largest motorcycle ride, and it’s all for charity. Anyone with a bike can participate, provided they bring at least one toy to donate to needy children in South Africa. Tens of thousands of bikes rally together every November, laden with toys, and they ride through the city to the collection point at Maynardville. The toys are then distributed to charities in need. Even if you don’t have a bike, you can donate toys to the cause, or buy a ticket to attend the main event arena and enjoy the bar, live music, and festive atmosphere. Check their website for details.
