Things to do on Women’s Day in Cape Town

Women’s Day falls on a Tuesday this year, making it the perfect day to treat yourself or that unique lady in your life with our selection of excellent specials and events. This day commemorates ladies who fought for their rights and dignity as they pushed back the regime’s “pass” systems (identity documents that limited freedom of movement). In 1956, well over 20 000 women marched to the Union Building in Pretoria in fierce defiance of the oppressive apartheid laws.  On Women’s Day, we celebrate the magic, beauty, love and strength in every woman.

This Women’s Day, the fine-dining destination is pulling out all the stops for ladies who love to luncheon! Chef Franck Dangereux will be whizzing up dangereuxly good food with a three-course meal that includes complimentary bubbles and coffee or tea to end the affair. The dress code is Breakfast at Tiffany’s, darling, so think diamonds and pearls, but don’t bring your nameless cat. You can book a well-deserved pamper session with a mini mani before lunch, in support of local women entrepreneurs in the area.
COST: The lunch costs R675p/p (some of the proceeds of which go to a women’s charity), while the pre-booked manicures are R150p/p.

This Women’s Day, glamorous gals have the chance to savour the flavour of different Fynbos teas whilst tucking into a selection of delectable canapés, inspired by the biome and complementing the subtle-tea of the beauteous beverages. Best of all, one incredibly lucky woman will win a flawless Shimansky Dancing Diamond pendant, valued at R32, 500! The Fynbos Tea Ceremony is sure to be tea-riffic!

COST: The tea ceremony costs R650p/p and spots are limited so booking in advance is essential. To book, email or phone +27(0)21 876 8600.

Spend a saucy hour or two with South Africa’s most famous (and vocal) white woman this Women’s Day as she cooks up some serious comedy, discussing her new role in the Luthuli House kitchen. Apparently she’s put the Cabinet on a strict, no-nonsense diet, so be prepared to feast on political witticisms as Lady Evita dishes up some devilishly poignant delights and insights.

COST:  Tickets cost R100p/p and are available from, and the show starts at 8pm.

Lace up and leg it for cancer this Women’s Day with this exciting race that’s just for the ladies. Happening in conjunction with the PinkDrive, the race aims to raise money for and awareness about breast cancer, and the need for improved services for women across the country. Following the sprint, there’ll be live entertainment with some sexy beats from Shekinah Donnell, a top six Idol’s finalist, so head to the Totalsports Women’s Race for a day of fun running!

COST: Entry to the race can be completed online via Entry to the 5-km run/walk costs R60p/p and entry to the 10-km run/walk costs R100p/p. You can purchase a temporary licence for R20p/p if you don’t have one already. For more information, click through to the event.
