False Bay Marine Life

Marine life in and around False Bay is phenomenal. Large schools of various dolphins enter the bay and from June to November great numbers of Southern Right whales arrive in the bay to mate and calve.

Bryde, Pilot and Sperm whales are also regular visitors to our waters and the occasional Killer whale (orca) is also sighted.

Thousands of Cape Fur Seals inhabit our shoreline with the most populated colony in False Bay being on Seal Island. Boulders Beach near Simon’s Town, is famous for its African Penguin colony.

The bird life along our Coastline and offshore is spectacular. Expect to see up to 5000 pelagic sea birds fighting over scraps behind an active trawler. Different species of Albatross, Petrels, Shearwaters, Cape Gannet, Skua, Tems and Gulls.
